Crucible Unbound
The Crucible has been unbound. After three events it reached a critical mass where it will now be able to simmer with minimal fuel, the fuel being byteGANs.
So what have we discovered about its properties, and where are things going?
How The Crucible has worked until now, and what we can expect in the future is detailed below…
What we Understand about The Crucible.
Everything began as a handful of Legendary byteGANs, several SuperRares, and the three Common types. No one knew why they appeared, just that they were 100% on-chain, completely contained within the Ethereum blockchain.
The Legendary byteGANs included a queenGAN, a kingGAN, some primeGANs, and several apeGANs. The SuperRares included 20 g1itchGANs and 69 ghostGANs. The rest of the 1111 were divided between skullGANs, cyberGANs, and octoGANs.
byteGANs were either SuperRare or Common, with little in between. Then The Crucible started burning, and that is when things got interesting.
byteGANs that were sent into The Crucible began to change. The original skullGANs, cyberGANs, and octoGANs combined and mixed and changed into cycloGANs, bioGANs, and xenoGANs (as can be seen in the gray ring above). These new types appear to be hybrids of the original three sharing some properties and visual characteristics. While their significance is as of yet unknown, they are being watched closely to see what they can tell us both about themselves and the original byteGANs from which they mutated.
Three Crucible Events have gotten us to the point where there are no longer just SuperRares and Commons, but a new class of Rares in between the two. As far as we can tell, the only way to get these Rares is to put Commons into The Crucible and await their mutation.
How Crucible Will Work Going Forward
To date, The Crucible has been invite only, where owners applied to experiment with their byteGANs by putting them in. As a result, about 100 volunteers have had their byteGANs mutate from the primary three types into cycloGANs, bioGANs, and xenoGANs. Over the remainder of the year approximately 100-200 more will be invited into The Crucible.
Going forward, The Crucible will remain invite only with two ways to get invited.
To encourage new collectors and expansion of the community, half of the invites will go to newly sold floor byteGANs. The other half of the invites will go to current holders. The exact mechanics are subject to change as the project evolves, but my current thinking for how this will work is the following.
Crucible Invites for New Sales: Every so often I will highlight a set of floor byteGANs and offer a Crucible invite to anyone that purchases those byteGANs on either sansa.xyz or pudding.xyz. This will be intermittent and based on my time and availability to work on the new bespoke byteGANs.
Crucible Invites for Existing Holders: For each byteGAN that sells off the floor and is sent to The Crucible, I will also give a Crucible invite to a current byteGAN holder. The criteria for getting this invite will vary. Sometimes it will be a raffle, other times it will be a reward for doing something cool for the community. The selection criteria will also be mixed with preferences being given for things like being an original holder, having a complete set, or applying to all the events up to date.
Each set of Crucible invites will experiment with a different approach. Also each individual mutation will be given bespoke attention by me, with occasional surprises that will move the byteGAN story along.
I can not guarantee that everyone that wants to participate in the Crucible will be able to, but I believe that if someone sets their mind to it, it is inevitable that they get one.
The Contract Burn Event
The Crucible will be active until the Contract itself is offered into the crucible and burned. This will be towards the end of the year at a major event in New York City. Details are still being finalized, but once the contract is burned, my access to change the inscriptions on the blockchain will end. byteGANs are already 100% on-chain and eternal, when the contract is burned, they will also become 100% immutable.
